Job PurposeThe Staff Nurse is accountable for coordination of nursing care, including direct patient care, patient/family education, and transitions of care. The role supports professional nursing practice across the continuum of care to meet patient and family needs, aligning with the mission, vision, and values of SSMC, and adhering to the Nursing Scope of Practice and the Professional Nurses Code of Conduct for Abu Dhabi and UAE.
Responsibilities- Assessment and Diagnosis
- Collect and analyze assessment data to determine diagnosis/issues.
- Assess comprehensive data (physical, psychosocial, emotional, cognitive, spiritual) and interpret information to derive diagnosis.
- Use evidence-based assessment techniques and validate diagnosis with patient, family, and team.
- Prioritize data based on immediate condition or anticipated needs and identify risks.
- Document information in compliance with guidelines.
- Planning and Outcomes Identification
- Identify expected outcomes and develop plans for health promotion, restoration, and maintenance.
- Involve patient, family, and team in culturally appropriate individualized plan.
- Apply evidence-based nursing practices; modify plan based on ongoing assessment.
- Document measurable goals using standardized language.
- Implementation and Coordination of Care Delivery
- Execute plan with timely evidence-based interventions.
- Perform treatments and procedures per protocols.
- Administer medications per policies.
- Document all components and modifications in the health record.
- Communicate information across all care levels and organizations.
- Demonstrate cost-effective resource use.
- Health Teaching & Health Promotion
- Utilize teaching strategies appropriate to patient condition and learning needs.
- Support patients/families in developing skills for healthy lifestyles and self-management.
- Seek feedback (e.g., teach‑back) and document education in the record.
- Evaluation
- Evaluate progress toward outcomes and patient/family understanding.
- Use assessment data to revise diagnoses, outcomes, and plan.
- Involve patient, family, and team in evaluation.
- Provide comprehensive handover/report; attend rounds and update providers.
- Document reassessment and rationale for plan changes.
- Evidence-Based Practice & Research
- Integrate current evidence and research findings into practice.
- Participate in evidence-based and research activities appropriate to education and position.
- Share findings with team; contribute to performance improvement projects.
- Leadership
- Serve as professional role model, fostering a positive, team‑based environment.
- Coordinate and supervise delegated activities; act as resource for staff.
- Demonstrate critical thinking in priority setting and decision making.
- Pursue leadership opportunities; participate in shared decision‑making.
- Supervise practical and junior nurses and student nurses.
- Accountabilities
- Apply professional codes of ethics, maintain therapeutic relationships, advocate for patients.
- Speak up on safety and quality; disclose illegal or incompetent practices.
- Evaluate practice against standards and guidelines.
- Consider effectiveness, cost, environmental health, and impact.
- Utilize current resources and navigate electronic systems.
- Respond to emergencies per policies.
- Experience
- Required:
Minimum 2 years clinical experience post‑qualification in an appropriate setting, or waivable for graduates of UAE nursing colleges/universities with completed internship. - Desired:

- Required:
- Bachelor degree in Nursing, or
- Degree in Nursing (minimum two years course duration) AND registration as a Registered Nurse from Canada, USA, UK, Ireland, South Africa, New Zealand, or Australia, AND valid/current national license, AND BLS.
- Desired:
- ACLS, PALS relevant to area of specialty.
