About the RoleThe Principal Technician – Machine Shop is a highly skilled machinist expert responsible for performing precision machining, grinding, drilling, tapping, reaming, extraction of broken screws, Heli-coil installation, milling, and other mechanical tasks on aircraft, engine parts, and various components. This role requires reading technical manuals, ensuring efficient workflow in the Machine Shop, maintaining compliance with safety and quality regulations, inspecting work, and coordinating with production planners.
Additionally, the Principal Technician plays a critical role in tool calibration, process improvement, and individual growth through training and development.
- Precision Machining and Mechanical Tasks (55%): Independently perform precision machining including grinding, drilling, tapping, reaming, extraction of broken screws, Heli-coil installation, milling, and other mechanical tasks following technical manuals to ensure high-quality work on aircraft and engine components.
- Workflow Organization (15%): Organize and control workflow within the Machine Shop to prevent production delays, prioritizing and scheduling tasks in coordination with production planners.
- Compliance and Safety (10%): Ensure strict adherence to company quality, safety, health, and environmental regulations, actively participating in safety and environmental programs.
- Quality Inspection and Sign-off (10%): Inspect completed tasks to verify efficiency and compliance with company and industry standards, signing off on work orders.
- Coordination and Communication (5%): Collaborate with production planners to determine daily work priorities and maintain open communication to ensure efficient task flow.
- Tool Calibration and Process Improvement (5%): Ensure calibration of all precision tools and equipment, identify and suggest process improvements, and pursue individual growth through training opportunities.
We are seeking a highly experienced machinist with at least 8 years of progressive aviation industry experience and vocational or technical training, preferably an associate degree or equivalent. The ideal candidate holds a D2 level authorization in machine shop practices and demonstrates expert proficiency in precision machining and mechanical execution.
Key competencies include strong ownership and accountability for complex machining tasks, excellent collaboration and workflow coordination skills, and the ability to provide technical support and share knowledge with peers. A continuous improvement mindset is essential, along with expertise in CNC programming and multi-platform operation, advanced technical documentation interpretation, measurement, and tool calibration. Commitment to quality, safety, and regulatory compliance is mandatory to ensure all work meets aviation standards.
