The Role

As a Systems Specialist, you will play a pivotal role in managing, implementing, and monitoring IT systems on‑premises while aligning with the organization’s Enterprise Architecture, IT Strategy, and Information Security Policy. You will oversee the operations of the VMware and Microsoft environments, ensuring seamless functionality and security. Your responsibilities include administering and supporting critical systems, evaluating design weaknesses, and recommending improvements based on international best practices.

You will maintain system inventories, monitor capacity reports and conduct regular security assessments to mitigate risks. Collaboration with cross‑functional teams will be essential to integrate security measures and ensure compliance with corporate policies, legal and regulatory requirements. This role demands technical expertise, problem‑solving skills and a commitment to maintaining high availability and security standards across all infrastructure components.

What You’ll Do Operations
  • Monitor, analyse and respond to security alerts, incidents and events, identifying and mitigating potential threats while coordinating incident resolution with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Administer and support IT systems including IIS, Microsoft and VMware technologies, ensuring adherence to standard practices and optimal performance.
  • Assess system design vulnerabilities and propose enhancements aligned with international best practices to strengthen infrastructure resilience.
  • Maintain an up‑to‑date inventory of systems and underlying services, ensuring accurate tracking and management.
  • Collect and review system‑related reports for capacity planning and operational efficiency, driving data‑informed decision‑making.
  • Manage and maintain infrastructure components such as Windows/Linux operating systems, patching systems, email/anti‑virus/anti‑spam solutions, server hardware, storage and Microsoft tools (SCCM/SCOM/Intune).
  • Oversee Microsoft Office 365 management (Exchange Online, Teams, One Drive), endpoint security (AV/EDR/Email Filter/Proxy/Reverse Proxy), domain infrastructure and file servers.
  • Execute backup and disaster recovery procedures to ensure data integrity and business continuity.
  • Monitor and troubleshoot system issues while adhering to downtime protocols to minimise operational disruptions.
  • Conduct regular security assessments and vulnerability scans, managing threat and risk exposure for Azure environments in compliance with corporate security policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Implement remediation measures for reported security vulnerabilities within agreed timelines to maintain compliance and security posture.
Collaboration
  • Collaborate with other departments to embed security measures into business processes, ensuring alignment with organisational goals.
  • Work closely with IT teams to design and deploy secure technologies, fostering a culture of security awareness and best practices.
  • Educate employees on security policies and provide training to enhance their understanding of information security principles and practices.
What We’re Looking For Essential
  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science or a related field.
  • VMware and Microsoft certifications such as Microsoft Certified Administrator, Microsoft Certified Solutions Architect or VMware Certified Professional.
  • ITIL certification.
  • Minimum five years of experience in a Systems Administration role.
  • Proven expertise in designing, implementing and managing on‑premises solutions, including compute, storage, networking, security and identity management.
