Responsibilities
Assess patients and interpret clinical requirements to determine the appropriate radiographic techniques.
Executes a range of radiographic examinations on patients to produce high quality images.
Observes and maintains contact with patients during their examination and post-examination stay in the department.
Assists in more complex radiological examinations under the supervision of a Radiologist and Chief Radiographer. Works effectively as a member of a multidisciplinary team to ensure that high standard of service is provided to patients, for example by sharing specialist knowledge and expertise.
Demonstrates initiative to prioritize, deliver and time‑manage workload effectively and, when appropriate, assist senior staff to plan efficient control of workflow patterns within the department.
Communicates with patients and others in a clear, respectful and appropriate way.
Positions patients safely for examinations and, if necessary, adapts standard techniques depending on medical conditions associated with disability, illness or trauma.
Records imaging identification and patient documentation swiftly and accurately and adheres to protocols ensuring compliance with the Data Protection Act and patient confidentiality.
Acquires new techniques and technologies as required by professional bodies and participates in annual performance appraisal programs.
Supervises assistant practitioners and other staff, delivering appropriate training. Ensures rooms and equipment are kept clean.
Educates patients before starting the procedure.
Ensures that the necessary radiation protection is provided to the patient.
Takes an x‑ray as required and sends it for digital processing.
Checks the quality of an x‑ray before the patient leaves the department.
Sends the images for reporting to the doctor’s reporting lobby through the PACS system.
Attends bedside x‑rays and theatre calls whenever required.
Gives the necessary instruction and appointment to patients in case of contrast studies.>
