Title:
Senior Manager, Piping Engineer
Provide senior technical leadership and discipline authority for piping engineering with a primary focus on piping stress analysis, pipe supports and piping materials engineering, ensuring safe, code-compliant and economical designs. Lead and coordinate piping engineering activities across the full project lifecycle (Concept/FEED, Detailed Engineering, Procurement support, Construction support and Commissioning) in an EPC/EPCM environment. Own technical integrity for stress analysis deliverables (critical line management, support philosophy nozzle loads, civil loading, vibration/dynamic assessment) and materials deliverables (PMS/line classes, datasheets, MTO/MR/TBE, vendor document review and traceability).
KeyAccountabilities & Responsibilities HSE, SEAL & Safety in Design
- Demonstrate visible and active commitment to HSE leadership on projects; promote safe behaviors and ensure discipline compliance with project and corporate requirements.
- Drive Safe and Sustainable Engineering outcomes by participating in SEAL alignment and hazard/risk assessment workshops; ensure piping inputs support safe operability and lifecycle thinking.
- Apply Safety in Design principles (ALARP / hierarchy of controls) within piping engineering and ensure hazards/risks are identified, documented and managed through design and reviews.
- Plan, organize and manage all aspects of piping engineering workload for one major project or multiple projects concurrently.
- Establish and maintain discipline deliverables register; control, monitor and progress deliverables to agreed schedule; provide timely status reporting.
- Manage resource requirements for piping (including dedicated stress and materials resources); coordinate staffing and skills needs with engineering/discipline management.
- Coach, mentor and technically supervise assigned engineers/designers; provide technical escalation, capability development and effective supervision.
- Ensure communication flow, both verbal and written, is maintained within piping and with other engineering disciplines.
- Define project stress philosophy/criteria and analysis approach; determine the need for computer stress analysis based on project guidelines and code requirements.
- Produce and maintain stress deliverable controls such as Critical Line List and Stress Sketch / Register; ensure stress status/approvals are captured for construction isometrics as required.
- Review and approve piping stress models, calculations and reports; ensure compliance with project-adopted codes/standards and alignment when software code edition differs from project code edition.
- Develop, review and approve pipe support requirements including support selection philosophy, special support lists, and interface requirements for structural design.
- Ensure timely and accurate piping load transmittals to Civil/Structural (anchor/guide/support loads, nozzle loads, and other required load cases) and lead cross-discipline coordination to close interfaces.
- Assess and manage vibration and dynamic effects (e.g., surge/slug, rotating equipment, relief valve reaction, wind/seismic as applicable) and define mitigation actions through layout/support optimisation.
- Support troubleshooting of stress issues, constructability constraints and field changes; provide engineering judgement to achieve safe, practical and cost-effective solutions.
- Lead development and governance of Piping Material Specifications (PMS) / Line Class Index and associated specifications; ensure alignment with process/service requirements and applicable codes/standards.
- Oversee preparation and checking of valve/flange/fitting/special item datasheets and specifications; manage technical clarifications and deviations.
- Lead materials take-off (MTO) quality and readiness for procurement; ensure completeness, accuracy and change control.
- Prepare and/or review Material Requisition s (MR), Technical Bid Evaluations (TBE), supplier data requirements and vendor document reviews for piping-related items.
- Coordinate with procurement and vendors on lead times, substitutions, and compliance; ensure QA/QC requirements including material traceability and documentation are met.
- Provide construction/site support for materials: material issuance priorities, shortage resolution, surplus management and close-out reporting as required.
