Material Engineer – Technical Office
Department: Technical Office / Engineering
Reports To: Technical Office Manager

Job SummaryThe Material Engineer – Technical Office is responsible for reviewing, approving, tracking, and coordinating all construction materials used in projects. The role ensures materials comply with project specifications, contractual requirements, local standards, and consultant approvals. The engineer works closely with procurement, site teams, QA/QC, and consultants to ensure timely material approval and delivery.
Key Responsibilities 1. Material Submittals & Approvals- Prepare and submit material submittals in accordance with project specifications.
- Review supplier technical data sheets, compliance statements, and test certificates.
- Ensure materials meet contract specifications, drawings, and applicable codes.
- Coordinate with consultants for material approvals and respond to comments.
- Maintain material submittal logs and tracking systems.
- Review project specifications and BOQs to identify material requirements.
- Ensure compliance with international and local standards (ASTM, BS, EN, ISO, etc.).
- Verify Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) and manufacturer certifications.
- Coordinate mock-ups and material samples submission.
- Coordinate with:
- Procurement team for approved vendors.
- Site engineers for material requirements and delivery schedules.
- QA/QC team for inspection and testing requirements.
- Suppliers and manufacturers for technical clarifications.
- Propose alternative materials (if required) for consultant approval.
- Conduct technical comparisons between different suppliers.
- Support cost optimization without compromising quality.
- Maintain updated material approval logs.
- Track long-lead materials.
- Prepare material comparison sheets.
- Assist in preparing technical reports.
- Archive approved material submittals and related correspondence.
- Coordinate laboratory testing requirements.
- Review test results for compliance.
- Ensure Inspection & Test Plans (ITPs) are aligned with material specifications.
- Monitor material inspection requests (MIRs).
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering, Materials Engineering, or related field.
- 10 years of experience in construction projects (technical office experience preferred).
- Strong knowledge of construction materials (concrete, steel, finishing materials, waterproofing, MEP materials, etc.).
- Familiarity with international standards (ASTM, BS, EN).
- Experience with submittal processes and consultant coordination.
- Proficiency in:
- AutoCAD
- Microsoft Office
- ERP systems (SAP/Oracle preferred)
- Document control systems
