Principal Instrumentation and Control Engineer role with Wood – an experienced Principal Engineer in the Oil & Gas sector responsible for leading the design, development, and optimisation of control systems and instrumentation to ensure efficient, reliable and compliant operation of industrial processes for high‑profile clients.

• Develop and oversee advanced instrumentation and control systems that drive efficiency and reliability.
• Provide technical support and guidance for complex automation challenges.
• Ensure all systems meet safety, environmental and regulatory standards.
• Integrate cutting‑edge technology to improve control systems and process automation.
• Lead teams and manage projects from concept to implementation.
• Enhance the performance and accuracy of control systems to boost operational efficiency.

• Develop Instrumentation & Control designs from the conceptual stage through detailed design, delivering sustainable and efficient solutions.
• Lead the design, modification and analysis of instrumentation and control systems for large Oil & Gas projects including brownfield debottlenecking and greenfield installations.
• Develop control strategies for implementation in DCS, SIS and Fire & Gas Systems and prepare specifications for procurement of instrumentation and control equipment.
• Identify and review new technology developments and select cost‑effective field and control systems.
• Assist in the preparation, review and approval of instrumentation discipline documents – Design Basis, specifications for DCS/ESD/FSI, F&G, BMS, flare control panels, etc.
• Provide OT Cybersecurity expertise for instrumented control and safety systems.
• Perform calculations for SIS loops, orifice and valve sizing, thermowell wake frequency and other critical parameters.
• Prepare design specifications, datasheets, functional design specifications, and extensive drawings including system architectures, PLC logic, loop diagrams, wiring and cable block diagrams.
• Establish and evaluate LLI items, MTOs and cost estimates for instrumentation and control systems.
• Lead bid evaluation and vendor document review for control systems, field instruments and valves.
• Develop and support FAT and SAT procedures and attend testing of control systems.
• Review OEM adequacy studies and reports for existing control systems and instruments.
• Ensure compliance with codes, standards and regulations (API, ISA, ANSI, AGA, ISO, IEC).
• Evaluate supplier/subcontractor technical bids for compliance and performance.
• Review vendor and discipline drawings for adequacy of I&C design inputs.
• Optimise design solutions to meet budget constraints while maintaining quality and safety.
• Prepare and review I&C technical reports, method statements and vendor clarifications.

• Lead and mentor a team of instrumentation & control engineers and designers.
• Identify technical issues, develop alternative solutions and recommend through official project documentation.
• Allocate tasks, provide guidance and issue direction for efficient project execution.
• Develop project schedules, monitor and report on timelines and budgets.
• Coordinate with project/engineering managers, procurement, construction and other disciplines to ensure integrated design solutions.
• Ensure deliverable accuracy, completeness and compliance with quality standards.
• Demonstrate excellent organisational, interpersonal, communication and analytical skills.
• Lead, motivate and manage a team independently, enhancing engineering competence and ownership.
• Deliver quality, accurate and timely work to Wood and its clients.
• Identify project milestones and deliver within budgeted man‑hours.
