Lead Civil Structural Designer – Wood plc
Wood plc invites an experienced Lead Civil Structural Designer to join our Global Energy & Materials practice in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.
Job OverviewThis role delivers structural engineering design excellence for complex offshore and onshore projects across the Oil & Gas, Midstream & Power sectors. The incumbent leads multidisciplinary design activities, aligning engineering solutions with strategic business goals and global client requirements.
Key Responsibilities- Lead structural design for large offshore and onshore facilities, ensuring compliance with international standards (UK, ANSI, IEC).
- Develop detailed drawings, design calculations and technical specifications from FEED through construction and hand‑over.
- Coordinate with FEED, construction, commissioning, and asset management teams to resolve design technical issues.
- Provide technical input to design reviews, design change management and risk assessment activities.
- Deliver accurate product information documentation (PIM, BIM, CAD models) for integration and testing.
- Mentor and lead a small team of structural designers and junior engineers.
- Maintain high design integrity and consistent quality across all design deliverables.
- BSc or higher in Civil, Structural or Mechanical Engineering.
- Minimum 12 years of experience in the oil & gas offshore FEED and design sector.
- Strong experience with complex offshore structures (rigs, platforms, subsea systems).
- Proven ability to manage multidisciplinary design teams and deliver projects on time and within budget.
- Excellent communication skills – capable of interacting with clients, contractors and internal stakeholders.
- Professional Engineering registration preferred (UK RCE, CSPE, ASME).
