Purpose and Scope:
To maintain and repair sections of roads, streets, curbs, surface mats, membranes, drainage structures, and other improved areas using appropriate paving and/or surfacing procedures; interpret construction drawings and surveys using information such as subgrade contours and grade alignment; and provide erosion control.
- Meet heavy equipment requirements on a government contract on a military installation.
- Determine type and application of equipment for various maintenance and repair operations, and operate construction equipment to finish grading, level, slope, and compact construction materials.
- Investigate proposed work sites to determine resource requirements, plan and estimate jobs, coordinate with other civil engineering and base agencies, and inspect work to ensure quality and compliance with policies, regulations, and other publications.
- Maintain and repair graded roads, graveled roads, open ditches, drainage, foundations, and slabs on grade.
- Possess experience in chain link fence construction and repair.
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Minimum five (5) years of recent heavy equipment experience, either military or commercial.
- Experience or supervision of construction equipment operation, special techniques in preparing sites for constructing and maintaining asphalt roads and grounds, concrete work, soil stabilization, and rigid and flexible pavement construction and maintenance.
- At least one of the following qualifications: OSHA Certified Crane Operator (29 CFR ), minimum two years on 100‑ton crane, Certified Forklift Operator, Certified Front‑End Loader, Certified CTL Skid Steer Operator, Certified Excavator Operator, Certified Street Sweeper Operator, or experience in chain link fence construction and repair.
- Basic computer skills.
- Ability to read, interpret, and apply Traffic Management (TM) instructions and safety rules.
- Valid CDL driver’s license and ability to operate a government general‑purpose vehicle.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret US Government Clearance; US citizenship required.
Employees regularly stand, walk, use hand tools, and may stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Frequently lifts 40–45 pounds, occasionally over 50 pounds. Exposure to moving mechanical parts, extreme heat, vibration, wet and humid conditions, high or precarious places, fumes, and extreme cold. The work environment is typically loud and may involve hazardous conditions.
