Overview

The Warehouse Associate supports the mission of Feeding Southwest Virginia by providing direct assistance in the daily operation of the warehouse. Responsibilities include shipping, receiving, warehouse maintenance, inventory control, food storage safety, and distribution of products to agencies. The Associate operates and maintains material handling equipment (MHE) and company vehicles per procedure and works alongside the Operations Team to foster a collaborative warehouse environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Demonstrate a professional demeanor when interacting with Feeding Southwest Virginia staff, agencies, program representatives, and government officials.
  • Keep informed of, and consistently practice, policies and procedures from Feeding Southwest Virginia, Feeding America national office, USDA, FDA, and all relevant regulations on food handling, storage, sanitation, and disposal.
  • Ensure maintenance of the warehouse, equipment, grounds, vehicles, sanitation, pest control, fire prevention, and safety procedures.
  • Maintain knowledge of Feeding Southwest Virginia and all programs.
  • Complete Serv Safe training within the first six months of employment and keep current.
  • Complete forklift certification per Federal and State Regulations.
  • Report and document any safety or facility damage, including photo documentation when needed.
  • Maintain access to all fire exits.
  • Perform random inspections of storage boxes and maintain weekly product damage/loss logs for the Perpetual Inventory Software.
  • Maintain cleanliness per AIB Audit best practices in all operational areas.
Operational Areas Freezer/Cooler
  • Label pallets/products with receipt date, item number, pallet weight, and expiration date.
  • Minimize ice buildup on floors and pallets to meet food and OSHA safety standards.
  • Maintain clear passage to all fire exits.
  • Monitor temperatures at standard 39°F and
    -8°F and report variances.
  • Maintain freezer/cooler cleanliness per AIB Audit best practices.
Kids Café Area
  • Put away, store, and pick kids program product to ensure availability.
  • Monitor expiration dates in support of program requirements.
  • Ensure safe product storage and report any variances.
  • Work with Programs Relationship Representative;
    Child Hunger Programs Specialist to maintain program continuity.
  • Maintain clear passage to all fire exits.
  • Report and reconcile daily variances or damage.
  • Maintain kids’ program aisle cleanliness per AIB Audit best practices.
Selection Floor
  • Ensure all safety and product handling rules are maintained for staff, visitors, volunteers, and agencies.
  • Restock selection floor daily as required to provide adequate product mix.
  • Conduct random inspections of storage boxes for food safety.
  • Maintain weekly product damage/loss log for inventory software.
  • Maintain clear passage to all fire exits.
  • Maintain selection floor cleanliness per AIB Audit best practices.
Shipping and Receiving
  • Accurately complete receipt information and required log data per standard procedures.
  • Validate inbound and outbound quantities to ensure inventory integrity.
  • Substantiate outbound load characteristics to prevent in-transit damage.
  • Maintain clear passage to all fire exits.
  • Maintain shipping and receiving area cleanliness per AIB Audit best practices.
USDA Area
  • Put away, store, and pick USDA product per USDA Food Distribution Guidelines and Agreement.
  • Conduct and reconcile weekly, monthly, and annual USDA product inventory.
  • Report and capture all USDA product damage and/or quantity variances.
  • Maintain appropriate pallet tags and product labeling.
  • Maintain clear passage to all fire exits.
  • Maintain USDA Program product aisle cleanliness per AIB Audit best practices.
Facility Operations
  • Follow procedures in receiving and shipping products to and from the Food Bank, including loading, unloading, and storage.
  • Process agency orders: read orders, check accuracy, and pack orders.
  • Accurately tag pallets with codes, cases, and weights.
  • Assist in directing product flow in the warehouse.
  • Oversee community service workers and assign duties.
  • Monitor first-in, first-out system on date-coded products.
  • Assist in maintaining pull-floor restocking.
