Position Summary
Mount Rogers Regional Adult Education Program is seeking a Part‑Time Adult Education Instructor to provide instructional services to incarcerated adult learners at the Southwest Virginia Regional Jail Authority (SWVRJA). This position focuses on academic skill development, GED® preparation, and life skills education for female students.
Minimum Qualifications- Bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited institution
- Female applicant required due to bona fide occupational qualification (BFOQ) and correctional facility security policies, as the class serves female inmates
- Ability to comply with all policies and procedures of the Southwest Virginia Regional Jail Authority
- Ability to work effectively with adult learners in a correctional setting
- Conduct adult education classes in accordance with SWVRJA and Adult Education Program policies
- Administer academic assessments for student placement, progress monitoring, and post‑testing
- Develop individualized academic plans based on each student’s academic level, interests, and goals
- Use varied instructional strategies to develop academic skills, problem‑solving abilities, verbal communication, and basic life skills
- Assist students with GED® test registration procedures
- Must successfully complete required Adult Education Program training
- Must complete jail‑specific training and comply with all facility security procedures
- Employment is contingent upon continued grant funding
- Schedule:
Monday and Tuesday, 1:00–4:00 PM - Location:
Southwest Virginia Regional Jail Authority - Salary: $24 per hour
