Job overview

Are you a qualified Mental Health Nurse or Occupational Therapist seeking a new challenge?

The AMHT is recruiting a full time Mental Health Nurses and/or Occupational Therapists to join our busy but rewarding community team in Abingdon as a full time Care Coordinator.

This is an excellent opportunity for newly qualified or experienced RMNs who are passionate about delivering high‑quality mental health care within an established, supportive, and forward‑thinking multidisciplinary service.

As a Band 5 Nurse within the South AMHT, you will play a vital role in supporting adults experiencing a wide range of mental health difficulties. You will have the opportunity to develop strong clinical skills, contribute to assessments and brief interventions, and work closely with our partners across health, social care, and the voluntary sector.

As a Band 5 Mental Health Nurse within the AMHT, you will work independently as part of an interdisciplinary team to diagnose, assess, plan, and implement patient‑specific programmes of care and interventions, contributing continuously to each patient’s assessment.

Main duties of the job
  • Undertake clinical assessments using your profession‑specific knowledge and skills, functioning effectively across a variety of environments—including wards, community settings, patients’ homes and other locations—often under changing and demanding conditions.
  • Use a comprehensive range of verbal and non‑verbal communication tools to explain diagnoses and treatment plans to patients and their families or carers. This will often involve conveying complex or sensitive information and supporting individuals who may experience difficulties with understanding or communication.
  • Involve patients in goal‑setting and treatment planning, ensuring valid informed consent wherever possible. When working with people who lack capacity or who are subject to the Mental Health Act, you will operate within the appropriate legal frameworks.
  • Supervise the practice of designated non‑registered staff or Nurse Associates and will delegate suitable duties to junior registered and support staff, following up to ensure appropriate outcomes.
  • Attend clinical meetings and communicate clearly—both verbally and in writing— with the multidisciplinary team, patients, and carers across service boundaries to ensure continuity and integration of treatment.
