Join Balfour Beatty’s Power Transmission & Distribution (T&D) business as a Planning Engineer, working on a major Multi‑Utilities (MU) project based at The White Horse Reservoir, Abingdon (Oxfordshire).

From day one, you’ll play a pivotal role in delivering complex, high‑impact infrastructure using modern planning tools, innovative methodologies and strong collaboration to drive the UK’s transition to Net Zero. As part of our Multi‑Utilities portfolio, you’ll be supporting programmes that combine underground utilities, power connections, substation interfaces, and wider enabling works that keep essential infrastructure moving. This is planning with purpose, where your expertise directly shapes critical national energy solutions.

Responsibilities
  • Planning & Scheduling – Develop and maintain fully resourced, logically linked programmes across all project stages.
  • Strategic Tender Planning – Create and present compelling tender programmes and planning strategies that influence bid outcomes.
  • Delivery Oversight – Support the management and performance of contract programmes, ensuring alignment with commercial and operational objectives.
  • Critical Path & Change Management – Identify project risks, analyse impacts, and implement mitigation measures with precision and confidence.
  • Reporting & Insights – Provide regular planning updates, progress reports, KPIs, and strategic insights to project leadership.
  • Mentorship & Team Contribution – Share knowledge, support junior planners, and foster a collaborative team environment.
  • Interface & Collaboration – Work closely with Project Managers, Engineers, Commercial teams, and Clients to maintain alignment and drive outcomes.
Qualifications
  • A Degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or similar.
  • Proven experience in a planning role on major infrastructure or energy projects.
  • Proficiency in planning software such as Primavera P6 or Asta Power project, alongside Excel and reporting tools.
  • Knowledge of NEC3/NEC4 contracts, earned value analysis, QSRA, and TRA methodologies.
  • An analytical mindset with a sharp eye for programme risk and opportunity.
  • Strong communication skills to engage confidently with stakeholders at all levels.
  • The ability to work independently and collaboratively in a hybrid, fast-paced delivery environment.
