UKAEA's Year in Industry placements provide students with the opportunity to work on real engineering projects, gaining practical skills and industry knowledge before returning to university to complete their degree.
- Learn from experienced engineers, supporting your academic studies while developing skills for your future engineering career.
- Develop new technical and professional skills and gain valuable real-world engineering experience.
- Gain insight into the wide range of engineering roles and projects across UKAEA.
- Work on a variety of projects, with typical assessment durations ranging from two weeks to three months.
- Contribute to projects supporting JET Decommissioning and Repurposing, MAST-U, and Fusion Futures.
- Support design and equipment qualification activities within the Engineering Qualification team across UKAEA programmes.
- Apply a range of analysis methods, including static, dynamic, thermal, structural, fluid, and electromagnetic analyses.
- Use industry-standard simulation tools, including ANSYS and other specialist software.
- Work on projects such as MAST-U upgrades, STEP fusion power plant concept design, and JET tokamak decommissioning.
