Job Description GENERAL DESCRIPTION

Under general supervision, responsible for ensuring the safe crossing of City streets for school students.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED

This position exercises no supervision.

IMPORTANT AND ESSENTIAL DUTIES
  • Work under the potential hazard of heavy traffic.
  • Report to the assigned crossing location at designated times.
  • Oversee school students while monitoring traffic to identify a safe crossing opportunity.
  • Physically occupy a crosswalk while school students cross the street.
OTHER JOB RELATED DUTIES

Perform other job related duties and responsibilities as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

Knowledge of:

  • Safe work practices as well as safety measures associated with directing traffic and pedestrians.
  • Principles and practices used in interacting effectively with the public.

Skill to:

  • Demonstrate vision, hearing, and related reflexes necessary to perform job duties.

Ability to:

  • Learn, interpret, and apply pertinent traffic laws.
  • Work independently in the absence of supervision.
  • Understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Act quickly and calmly in emergencies.
  • Engage with the public in a tactful and effective manner.
  • Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
  • Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work, both internally and externally.

Experience and Training Guidelines

For positions with more than one level, all listed requirements at the lower levels are required at the higher levels. Any combination equivalent to experience and training to provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be qualifying. Knowledge, skills, and abilities may be obtained through:

Experience:

No experience is required.

Education/Training:

Formal or informal education or training, which ensures the ability to read and write at a level necessary for successful job performance is required.

License or Certificate:

No license or certification required.

Special Requirements

Essential duties require the following physical skills and work environment:

  • Haz Com training is required within Sixty (60) days of employment.
  • Exposure to noise, outdoors, and inclement weather.
  • Availability for flexible hours.

Physical Demand Codes

  • X Sedentary – lifting of no more than 10 pounds
  • Light – lifting no more than 20 pounds; carrying up to 10 pounds
  • Medium – lifting no more than 50 pounds; carrying up to 25 pounds
  • Heavy – lifting no more than 100 pounds; carrying up to 50 pounds
  • Very Heavy – team lifting over 100 pounds; carrying more than 50 pounds
