Activity Coordinator PRN
Join Oceans Healthcare’s Activity Coordinator PRN role at Oceans Behavioral Hospital Abilene. We focus on helping adolescents, adults and seniors manage anxiety, depression and other mental health issues through innovative therapies.
Essential Functions- Assist the CTRS in providing therapeutic recreational activities in a timely manner, aligned with Joint Commission, Federal and State Regulations.
- Assist in planning and conducting individual and group activities as assigned by the CTRS.
- Participate as an active member of the treatment team, attending meetings when necessary and reporting on assigned patients.
- Document in a timely manner in the medical record.
- Communicate in an age/disability/culturally sensitive manner to patients and their families.
- Assist in identifying safety, psychosocial, special mobility and special equipment needs under the direction of the CTRS.
- Assist in conducting discharge planning in accordance with age/disability/cultural needs, involving members of the patient's support system in decision making as appropriate.
- Respond to inquiry calls and assist in performing chart audits.
- Assist in planning and conducting individual and group therapy assigned by the CTRS, Administrator, or physician’s orders.
- Perform other duties and projects as assigned.
Experience /
Education:
High school graduate or equivalent preferred. At least 1 year experience working with psychiatric patients in an inpatient setting preferred. Certificate of completion from an accredited Activities Training Program preferred.
Must demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to any age related disability and the needs of the patients served on assignment. Must be able to assess and interpret data about the patient’s status to identify each patient’s needs and provide the appropriate care, including age related care/disability/cultural sensitivity related care to adolescent, chronically mentally ill, adult, geriatric, chemically dependent, and dually diagnosed patient populations.
Must have basic knowledge of chronic mental illness. Must have in-depth knowledge of clinical therapy modalities. Must have excellent communication and group/process skills as related to age specific patient needs. Must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development appropriate to the patient population served. Must be able to work under close supervision. Must successfully complete CPR certification and an Oceans approved behavioral de‑escalation program.
Environment
Subject to many interruptions. This position can be high paced and stressful including pressure due to multiple calls and inquiries; must be able to cope mentally and physically to atmosphere. This person might sometimes experience disagreeable odors, sights and/or unpredictable patient behavior. Work requires spending approximately 90% or more of the time inside a building that offers protection from weather conditions but not necessarily from temperature changes.
