Registered Nurses deliver care to patients utilizing the nursing process. Nurses collaborate with other professional disciplines to ensure effective patient care delivery and achievement of desired patient outcomes. Nurses effectively interact with patients and significant others while maintaining the standard of professional nursing. Registered Nurses provide direct and individualized nursing care to patients based on the application of scientific nursing principles.

Because of the broad range of medical conditions they encounter, they must be well‑versed in a large variety of health conditions. Registered Nurses have a professional obligation to participate in committee activities, surveys and improvement initiatives and must uphold the standards of the Texas Nurse Practice Act. Emergency Department Registered Nurses provide care for patients of all ages and acuity, and are required to prioritize nursing interventions to maintain safe and efficient care.

  • Registered Nurse
  • ACLS: prior to completion of unit orientation
  • TNCC: within 18 months of hire
  • ENPC and/or PALS: prior to completion of unit orientation
  • CPR-BLS
  • NIHSS: prior to completion of unit orientation
• Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities
  • Self‑Initiative: active contributor to ED flow and throughput
  • Sense of Urgency: provide safe, fast, effective care regardless of acuity or census
  • Adaptability: the emergency department requires constant adjustment to meet acuity, volume intensity and situational adaptation
  • Professional appearance and decorum at all times; the ED is the ‘front door’ to the hospital
  • Ability to handle confidential information
