Job Overview
Join Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) as an Environmental Investigator. This role is based at the Abilene regional staff and focuses on ensuring compliance with state environmental laws.
Responsibilities- Conduct technical inspections, surveys, and follow‑up investigations; prepare reports documenting field activities and observed conditions.
- Conduct environmental monitoring and prepare technical papers on studies involving environmental subjects.
- Provide technical assistance to the public, regulated community, and other groups regarding the application of appropriate regulations.
- Assist with collecting and analyzing environmental samples.
- Experience interpreting rules, regulations, policies, or procedures.
- Experience conducting inspections or investigations.
- Experience collecting environmental samples.
- Experience interacting with the public, media, and/or regulated community to provide technical and/or non‑technical information.
- Experience working with environmental issues, specifically water supply system issues.
Required Education
: A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in a natural or physical science, engineering, environmental studies, or related field.
Alternative
:
Four years of full‑time experience in environmental activities directly related to the work performed. Employees may research, work on, or have access to critical infrastructure, including communication infrastructure, cybersecurity, electric grid, hazardous waste treatment, or water treatment facilities.
A copy of your official college transcript or evaluation of foreign credentials is required if needed.
Current TCEQ EmployeesThis position is also available as a lateral transfer opportunity (LTO) to TCEQ employees within the Natural Resources Specialist II‑IV state classification. The selected candidate must meet the minimum qualifications of the corresponding Environmental Investigator II‑IV series.
Work ScheduleStandard business hours:
Monday‑Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. Individual and group schedules are determined by the Abilene Region Office.
