SUMMARY/SCOPE:
This position participates in abroad range of activities that support the mission, vision, core values andpurposes of the school of nursing and its consortium partners. Faculty membersat HSU are responsible and accountable for ensuring the attainment of thegoals, mission and vision of the school of nursing. Successful performance ofthis role requires excellent classroom, clinical and professional proficiency,management, leadership, organizational aptitude, and excellent interpersonal communication.
In addition, faculty are accountable and responsible for ensuring program compliance with the standards and guidelines set forth by the Texas Board of Nursing and other accrediting agencies. Ultimately, thecontinued pursuit of academic excellence in all settings is central to thisrole. This position reports directly to the appropriate Program Chair, unlessotherwise specified in supplemental job description.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES/BASIC RESPONSIBILITIES:
Maintain current knowledge ofprevailing literature and standards in nursing.
Inform the Dean/Program Chairof interested faculty and potential clinical affiliations to prepare forcontingencies in faculty appointments and clinical agency experiences.
Follow the organizational chainof command for reporting problems in the School of Nursing.
Participate, as needed, in providing solutions for problems in the School of Nursing.
Utilize aggregate data from the evaluation of curriculum, faculty and student evaluation of teaching-learningpractices to inform decisions that facilitate the achievement of student outcomes to foster program improvement.
Respond appropriately to anannual evaluation conference with the Program Chair.
Engage in appropriate and required faculty development activities that foster achievement of program outcomes.
Maintain a professionalaffiliation with community partners and other agencies.
Participate in external and internal recruitment activities for the school of nursing.
Maintain accurate records and documents and submit timely reports. Records/documents include but are not limited to syllabi, grades, and office hours.
Submit all course grade booksto the Dean's office at the end of each semester.
Devote primary efforts tocarrying out contractual responsibilities, as faculty, except during vacationperiods and/or excused periods under the terms of your contract.
Schedule, announce, post, and maintain sufficient office hours to allow students time for formal and informalcontact that may include but is not limited to advising, mentoring and remediation.
Acquire and demonstrateproficiency in test and curriculum development, item analysis, utilizing blueprints and curriculum mapping.
Maintain an up-to-date testbank utilizing the TXBON recommendations for alternate formats.
Strive to ensure the highest level of faculty and student morale within the school and maintain harmonious,professional, collegial and productive working relationships among colleagues,both within the school and the consortium institutions at large.
Fulfill all classroom and clinical duties essential to the role of faculty, as assigned, by theDean/Program Chair.
Attend faculty meetings and participate in the process of faculty governance within the school of nursing and consortium institutions.
Participate in curriculum and program development.
Utilize evidenced based practice and best practices in the teaching-learning process.
Be familiar with the accreditation requirements of the Texas Board of Nursing (TXBON rule 215.7 (c),Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE), and the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS).
Participate in the preparationfor and meetings of the Accreditation and Board visits.
Know and uphold the policies inthe Undergraduate/Graduate Catalogs, Nursing Student Handbook, and facultyhandbook.
Function within the parameters of conventions, conferences, and constituencies of the consortium institutionmembers.
Participate in the advising,mentoring and remediation of students.
Make recommendations regarding equipment, computer labs, technology, software and supplies.
Develop, disseminate, andupdate syllabus according to program requirements.
Performs other dutiesas assigned.
