The Staff Physician at the State Supported Living Center (SSLC) performs highly advanced medical work, ensuring and overseeing the delivery of high‑quality, integrated medical services to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The role diagnoses and treats complex medical, psychiatric and behavioral health needs, develops health‑care plans, collaborates with the treatment team, and provides direction to solve complex medical issues.
Essential Job Functions- Attend work on a regular basis, may work rotating schedules, overtime, or extended shifts as required.
- Serve in an on‑call status on a rotating schedule.
- Deliver and monitor high‑quality medical services, diagnosing and treating individuals with intellectual disabilities and complex medical needs.
- Provide direction and guidance to the treatment team, ensuring health‑care plans are properly implemented.
- Oversee and monitor long‑term health status and chronic care, including quarterly assessments, medication reviews, and prescription writing.
- Provide acute care and daily assessments for acute health problems or injury.
- Participate in interdisciplinary planning conferences and personal support team meetings.
- Develop accurate documentation, including medical reports, specialty consultation records, and annual summaries.
- Refer and consult with admitting physicians and hospitals for continuity of care.
- Collaborate with the medical services department to achieve compliance with the DOJ Settlement Agreement.
- Provide treatment to HHS employees injured in the course and scope of employment.
- Participate in disaster response, COOP activation, or other agency obligations as needed.
- Knowledge of general medicine practices and individualized care plan development.
- Knowledge of medical jurisprudence and ICF‑IID standards.
- Skill in diagnostic and treatment tools.
- Experience practicing medicine and managing patient care.
- Ability to handle campus emergencies and on‑call duties.
- Strong communication skills with nurses, staff, families, and interdisciplinary team.
- Ability to evaluate patients, implement treatment plans, and coordinate with other personnel.
- Ability to maintain required continuing medical education hours.
Must be licensed as a medical doctor by the State of Texas; hold current DEA registration; possess NPI and be enrolled as a Medicaid and Medicare Part B provider.
Initial Screening Criteria- Graduation from an accredited medical / osteopathic program.
- Residency training.
- Clinical experience and experience leading or supervising others.
- Applicants must pass a fingerprint background check, pre‑employment drug screen, and registry checks.
- All applicants must be at least 18 years old.
- Position may require overtime, extended hours, weekends, holidays, and flexibility in work hours.
- All SSLC employees are subject to random drug testing.
