Party Chief – Surveyor | Abilene, TX (Permanent Relocation)
Primoris Heavy Civil is looking for an experienced Party Chief–Surveyor to join our team on a major project in Abilene, Texas
. This is a hands‑on, field‑based role where your expertise will directly shape the success of large‑scale land, bridge, and roadway construction
. As a Party Chief, you’ll lead surveying operations that ensure construction work aligns precisely with design plans. You’ll be responsible for conducting critical field surveys, collecting and analyzing data, and delivering accurate, high‑quality information that drives project execution. Your leadership and technical skills will make you a key contributor to the project team from day one.
Provide internal surveying service to ensure construction work complies with design drawing locations. Lead and perform construction surveys for land development, roadway, and bridge projects.

- Willingness to travel or relocate to Midland, TX.
- Provide work control lines and elevations that are required for accurate measurements and correct installation of materials by crafts (e.g., forms for concrete pours, anchor bolts, piping hangers, and supports).
- Provide checking of “as built” conditions that require the use of surveying techniques.
- Provide topographic and cross‑section surveys as required for planning and payment quantities.
- Provide quantity calculations as required.
- Prepare documentation of surveying activities (field books) “as built” drawings and submit for approval upon completion.
- Maintain condition and adjustment of surveying equipment.
- Coordinate surveying activities with the assigned engineer to meet the construction requirements.
- Verify horizontal and vertical control, layout, and as‑built data in accordance with design drawings.
- Operate and maintain surveying equipment including GPS, total stations, and levels.
- Accuracy verification of plan drawings.
- Thorough knowledge of and ability to use all the surveying equipment and techniques essential.
- Ability to accurately read blueprints and calculate shapes (geometric, etc.).
- Perform additional related assignments as directed by supervisor.
- One (1) to four (4) years of experience in specified skill (depending on mechanic level).
- Two years technical engineering/surveying training.
- Post‑offer drug/alcohol screen and physical evaluation.

- Applicant/employee must not pose a direct threat to the health or safety of such individual or others in the workplace.
- Job site safety requirements as required by the client (long sleeves, steel toe boots, etc.).
- Safety equipment as required by the client (hard hat, safety glasses, gloves, respirator, hearing protection, safety harness with lanyard, etc.).
- Must comply with company’s drug and alcohol abuse policy.
- Must be able to pass a physical examination, pre‑employment if necessary, and as required by the company.
- Able to climb and maintain balance on ladders, scaffolding, stairways, etc.
- Stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, or work at elevated heights as well as in confined spaces (towers, vessels, excavations, etc.).
- Able to carry 50 lbs. of tool and/or materials. It is recommended to get assistance to lift items over 50 lbs. Check with your project supervisor or project safety director.
- Must be able to stand or walk for long periods of time.
- Must be able to work extended hours on your feet on uneven surfaces (dirt, concrete, asphalt, mud, gravel, etc.).
- Must be able to work while wearing a respirator and other personal protective equipment, when required.
