The Role

The Digital Education Coordinator plays a vital role in supporting staff and students to use the learning technologies available at Aberystwyth University, including Blackboard, Turnitin, Panopto and Vevox. The post holder is part of a team of Digital Education practitioners. They are a versatile practitioner who adapts their approach to meet the needs of staff and students.

The post holder works closely with fellow practitioners and the Digital Education Lead to develop a recently formed Digital Education service, which is part of the Academic Engagement Service in the Library. They will deliver on operational priorities and help shape an institutional plan that aligns with the University’s 2030 Strategic Plan and meets the needs of a diverse student community.

The post holder will enable technical integrations, liaise with teams in Information Technology Services and external providers, oversee the organisation of Online Exams, and collaborate on digital enhancement projects and events such as the Annual Learning and Teaching Conference.

They will report to the Digital Education Lead and contribute to the delivery of support provision, interventions and resources that aid staff and students in all aspects of their academic experience.

What you’ll do
  • Technical and User Support
    • Deal with queries from staff and students via email, Teams or telephone, providing technical advice and resolving problems.
    • Report faults to appropriate software companies and communicate responses back to users.
    • Participate in technical testing of new systems and enhancements.
    • Work with the team on rolling out new initiatives and technologies.
    • Provide support in both Welsh and English.
    • Create and update user documentation, guides, FAQs, blog posts and web pages.
    • Develop and deliver training sessions to staff and students on supported services.
    • Provide one‑to‑one and small group consultations to develop e‑learning tool use.
    • Enable integrations on live and test servers, liaising with external providers.
    • Lead technical testing of new systems and enhancements.
    • Monitor Blackboard, Panopto and Turnitin updates and recommend improvements.
    • Oversee the Blackboard Course Creation process and the provisioning of Panopto classes every year.
    • Conduct horizon scanning and draw on best practice from the sector.
  • Online Assessment
    • Create support materials for assessment pilots.
    • Support staff using Blackboard to deliver and report online exams.
    • Collaborate with administrative staff, the Superintendent of Exams and the Timetabling Office on scheduling and delivery.
    • Perform quality checks on exam settings to ensure smooth operation.
    • Support university invigilators overseeing online exams.
    • Provide initial technical support during online exams.
    • Work with Global Marketing and Student Recruitment on scholarship and merit award exams.
    • Review online assessment practices regularly and recommend improvements.
  • Outreach and Engagement Activities
    • Deliver enhancement and engagement activities such as the Annual Learning and Teaching Conference.
    • Write communications for staff and students on technical updates, including the blog and newsletters.
    • Use data and sector advice to recommend technological enhancements.
    • Participate actively in team meetings.
    • Represent the group on staff networks.
    • Review and recommend documentation and communications.
    • Organise communication campaigns and awareness activities.
    • Undertake other duties assigned by the line manager, commensurate with the role’s grade.
    • Engage in university‑level projects and initiatives.
    • Support colleagues during high‑demand periods, including key events.
