We are seeking to appoint a dedicated and compassionate Behaviour Support Worker (TA4 BGS) to take a lead role in supporting pupils with Additional Learning Needs, Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs and Behavioural, Emotional and Social Difficulties (BESD). The successful candidate will join our Additional Learning Needs (ALN) team for 32.5 hours a week, during term time, on a year’s contract initially.

Under the guidance of relevant Management within the Local Authority, the role will involve coordinating an outreach provision which offers a programme of support for pupils experiencing BESD. Pupils will access the provision on a part‑time basis therefore close collaboration with the pupils’ schools will be necessary. The post‑holder will also work closely with the Engagement and Attainment Team to ensure an effective wrap‑around approach to supporting our pupils.

On a day‑to‑day basis you will:

  • Coordinate the timetable in the BESD outreach provision;
  • Visit schools to observe identified pupils and offer support and guidance;
  • Provide advice, model appropriate strategies and develop resources to meet learners’ needs appropriately in order to manage behaviour and develop pupil progress.
  • Attend and contribute to person‑centred meetings.

We are looking to recruit an individual who:

  • Has HLTA Status (Level
    4) or an equivalent qualification.
  • Has experience in supporting children with additional learning needs, particularly SEMH and BESD;
  • Has strong communication skills, patience, and a resilient, caring approach, capable of building rapport and positively influencing pupils;
  • Has an empathetic and patient individual with the ability to adapt to learners’ varying needs and learning styles;
  • Has a genuine passion for helping children thrive both emotionally and academically;
  • Is a proactive problem‑solver with creative approaches to educational support;
  • Is a team player with the ability to work independently when necessary;
  • Is a person who is flexible in their approach, is trauma informed and has experience of using de‑escalation techniques to support pupils who are finding it difficult to regulate;
  • Has a strong understanding of safeguarding procedures;
  • Is able to model best practices and uphold professional standards;
  • Has respect for diversity and inclusion;
  • Is flexible and adaptable to change;
  • Has a high standard of professional integrity and confidentiality;
  • Has experience in leading groups of pupils to support with their academic development.

In addition to the above, we require an individual with a degree of fluency in the Welsh language.

32.5 hours over 5 days a week, during school term time only.
