The Role:
The successful candidates will create, deliver and adapt suitable non-subject specific learning/study skills support programmes for individual disabled students and those with learning differences, based on individual learning profiles and recommendations from Study Needs Assessments. A minimum caseload of 8 students is a requirement.
Working as a member of a multi-disciplinary team you will meet regularly, by appointment, with your allocated students to advise and assist them on appropriate approaches and strategies which they may adopt to facilitate effective study and learning including, for example, note-taking, planning, organisation and research skills, academic writing and examination preparation as appropriate.
With the aim of moving students towards independent learning and study you will encourage them to develop and move forwards at their own pace taking account of their individual, different and unique learning skill and style.

What you’ll do- Deliver 1:1 tutor support within a clear framework: take responsibility for all the delivery of learner support within the framework of the recommendations as determined by the Study Needs Assessment (SNA).
- Develop appropriate support materials within the framework of the SNA; customise materials to the student’s needs and prepare supplementary teaching materials drawn from appropriate resources to respond to differentiated learning needs.
- Set and monitor sessional learning objectives and provide formative feedback; tailor learning action plans to students’ needs.
- Guide and coach students to develop processes and strategies for answering examination questions effectively.
- Plan work within the constraints of ADSHE guidance and Accessibility Services procedures: prepare learning support plans with the student in line with accreditation body guidelines.
- Provide regular opportunities for students to check email, Blackboard and other information sources and act on these as necessary.
- Participate as a member of a 1:1 support worker team, attend mandatory meetings, share good practice, liaise with other 1:1 support workers to coordinate work and avoid duplication.
- Manage decision-making where it affects individual students, following University procedures and policies.
- Address problems affecting the student’s learning experience using appropriate learning support approaches.
- Encourage learners to develop their full potential, considering specific learning needs or wellbeing considerations.
- Reflect on practice and development of learning support materials; revise learning support strategies as needed.
- Undertake health and safety duties appropriate to the post.

- Degree, teaching qualification or equivalent qualification or experience.
- Interest in becoming a professional (full or associate) member of PATOSS or BDA or ADSHE or Dyslexia Guild.
- Willingness to undertake mandatory AS training.
- Demonstrable experience of delivering a range of 1:1 language and learning study activities in Further or Higher Education.
- Excellent organisational, verbal and written communication skills (including listening skills and competent IT skills).
- Experience of developing good relationships with staff and students.
- Experience of issues affecting disabled students and those with specific learning differences in Higher Education.
