We are seeking an experienced and proactive Transport Manager to oversee the safe, compliant, and cost‑effective operation of our transport fleet. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring full compliance with UK transport legislation, managing drivers and vehicles, and continuously improving operational performance.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure full compliance with UK road transport legislation, including Operator Licence (O-Licence) requirements, DVSA regulations, and Drivers’ Hours and Working Time Directive
- Act as the named Transport Manager on the Operator Licence (where applicable)
- Oversee vehicle maintenance schedules, MOTs, servicing, and defect reporting
- Manage driver recruitment, training, performance, and disciplinary matters
- Ensure tachograph data is downloaded, analysed, and infringements addressed
- Plan routes and workloads to maximise efficiency and minimise costs
- Monitor fuel usage, KPIs, and transport budgets
- Investigate accidents, incidents, and near misses, implementing corrective actions
- Liaise with external bodies such as DVSA, Traffic Commissioners, and maintenance providers
- Maintain accurate transport records and documentation
- Drive continuous improvement in safety, compliance, and operational performance
Skills and Experience
- Proven experience in a Transport Manager or similar role within the UK
- In‑depth knowledge of UK transport legislation and compliance requirements
- Experience managing a fleet of vehicles and professional drivers
- Strong organisational and problem‑solving skills
- Excellent communication and leadership abilities
- Competent IT skills, including transport management systems
- Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple priorities
Qualifications
- CPC in Road Haulage (National or International) –
