Endoscopy, ARI
We are seeking to appoint a Band 5 Endoscopy Pre-Assessment Staff Nurse, on a full time 37-hour contract to join the existing Endoscopy telephone pre-assessment team at NHS Grampian.

Overview

The Endoscopy pre-assessment team are based within Ashgrove House on the grounds of Aberdeen Royal Infirmary (ARI). It provides a telephone pre-assessment service to patients in the North East of Scotland who are referred with gastro-intestinal symptoms or have tested positive on the Bowel Cancer Screening Programme and require investigation. The department is open Monday to Friday 08:00–18:00.

The role involves providing psychological and informational support to individuals who require gastro-intestinal investigations. The post holder will assess, prepare and support patients for their investigation, most of whom have been referred on the urgent suspected cancer pathway and are facing a possible cancer diagnosis. It is essential that the post holder has the ability, knowledge and confidence to take an in-depth medical history, request further investigations such as CT scans and bloods when required.

As a member of the Endoscopy Pre-assessment and Bowel Screening Team, the post holder will be involved with vetting referrals from the Bowel Cancer Screening Programme, answering voicemail messages and emails from patients/colleagues. The successful candidate will act as a local resource for members of the Multi-Disciplinary Team (MDT), answering queries and assisting with problem solving as the need arises.

The Department is supported by Speciality Clinicians, Clinical Endoscopists, and Service Managers. The successful candidate will be expected to work within this busy, well established department and integrate with the team. Therefore, good communication and networking are an essential skillset.

The Foresterhill campus is reputed to be the largest in Europe with the principal medical services for Grampian. The University of Aberdeen Medical School is closely integrated. On site are internationally renowned facilities, such as the Institute for Medical Sciences, the Health Economic Research Unit and the shortly to be opened Rowett Institute of Nutrition. There are currently two large building projects taking place on the Foresterhill Site—the Baird Family Hospital and the National Treatment Centre, which will provide patient centre care in new and modern settings.
