INTRODUCTION

Greyhope Bay is a charitable organisation that helps communities connect with each other, their environment and place – imagining more for Aberdeen, our communities and our coast.

Based at the Greyhope Bay Centre at Torry Battery, the organisation delivers a growing programme of visitor experiences, community activity and environmental engagement, alongside a café and volunteer programme. Guided visitor experiences are a key part of how people encounter Greyhope Bay. These include cruise-related tours, coastal and heritage walks, and other guided activities that bring together place, wildlife and local stories.

Volunteers play a central role in making this possible.

The Cruise Tour Lead & Volunteer Coordinator role brings together responsibility for guided tour delivery and volunteer coordination, ensuring high-quality visitor experiences while supporting and developing a strong volunteer community.

JOB DESCRIPTION & PERSON SPECIFICATION

The Cruise Tour Lead & Volunteer Coordinator plays a key role in shaping how people experience Greyhope Bay and how they feel when they get involved. You’ll lead guided visitor experiences, with cruise tours as a core focus, bringing Greyhope Bay to life for visitors by sharing the stories about the local environment, the mission of the centre and the biodiversity of the bay and wider coastline.

At the same time, you will support and grow a volunteer community that feels welcomed, valued and confident. This is a hands-on, people-focused role for someone who enjoys working in a public facing position, coordinating activity, building relationships and helping others feel part of something meaningful.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Guided Tours & Visitor Experiences
  • Lead, shape and deliver guided coastal and heritage tours for cruise visitors and other audiences, helping people connect with Aberdeen’s coastline, wildlife and stories.
  • Create and build on existing tours that feel welcoming, well-paced and help people connect to the area, with volunteers playing an active and visible role where appropriate.
  • Manage tour bookings, scheduling and visitor communications with clarity and care.
  • Coordinate the practical details of tour days — timings, materials, staffing and visitor flow — so everyone knows their role and feels supported.
  • Gather feedback from visitors and volunteers to help shape how tours continue to evolve.
  • Maintain a safe and secure environment for all tour attendees by proactively monitoring conditions, identifying potential risks, and ensuring full compliance with health and safety standards.
Volunteer Community & Participation
  • Welcome volunteers into being part of Greyhope Bay by building relationships and helping them feel a genuine sense of belonging, purpose and connection to the place.
  • Support volunteers to contribute their time, skills and curiosity in ways that feel meaningful to them, work towards their goals, and valuable to the organisation.
  • Schedule and coordinate volunteer involvement across guided tours, events and other activities, ensuring volunteers feel confident, informed and well supported.
  • Act as a consistent, friendly point of contact for volunteers, listening, responding and adapting as the volunteer programme grows.
  • Deliver volunteer training to ensure volunteers are well-informed about Greyhope Bay and the local area and can continue to build their skills and knowledge to enhance visitor experience.
Events and Programme Support
  • Support the delivery of events, open days and engagement activities alongside the wider team.
  • Work closely with the ESG & Impact Lead and COEO to involve volunteers in our community programmes and environmental activities.
  • Help ensure volunteers and visitors feel safe, supported and clear about what’s expected of them.
Administration and Coordination
  • Keep clear, accurate records of bookings, volunteer involvement and activity.
  • Support…
