About the role

This is a permanent contract based at our Aberdeen office or other office locations.

The Technical Training Manager reporting to the HR Director is responsible for developing, implementing, and managing comprehensive training programs that enhance workforce skills ensure compliance with industry standards, and support production excellence. This role leads the planning and execution of technical training initiatives for operations personnel, ensuring that the organization maintains a highly skilled, certified, and safety-conscious workforce.

This role is particularly well suited to
  • Strong technical expertise in energy industry operational requirements particularly within Oil & Gas, Renewables and Infrastructure sectors.
  • Strong technical knowledge e.g. welding codes and standards.
  • Experience with various fabrication processes and inspection methods.
Key Responsibilities Training Program Development & Delivery
  • Design and deliver a comprehensive technical training strategy aligned with business needs and industry standards
  • Identify technical skills gaps through consultation with operations leads and supervisors.
  • Design, develop, and oversee training programs based on company needs and industry standards (e.g. AWS, ASME, ISO, etc.), and customer requirements.
  • Develop and conduct competency assessments to identify skill gaps and training priorities.
  • Develop instructional materials, practical exercises, and assessments for processes and procedures.
  • Coordinate and deliver classroom instruction, hands-on training, and certification preparation programs.
  • Ensure training aligns with quality assurance, production goals, and safety requirements.
Certification & Compliance
  • Manage the full lifecycle of technical training qualification and requalification programs in accordance with required standards and business objectives — from planning and scheduling to evaluation and continuous improvement.
  • Ensure all training materials are current, accurate, and compliant with industry and company standards.
  • Maintain training records, certification documentation such as welder performance qualification test (WPQ) data.
  • Collaborate with internal departments (Operations, HSE, HR etc.), clients and third parties as necessary to ensure adherence to requisite standards, and safety policies.
Leadership & Management
  • Lead and mentor any technical trainers, instructional designers, or subject matter experts. Build coaching program to standardise and maximise knowledge transfer.
  • Establish performance metrics and foster a culture of continuous learning and improvement.
  • Develop standards and maintain consistency in training delivery and evaluation.
  • Manage training plans and efficiently manage any associated resources such as facilities, consumables, and equipment.
Stakeholder Collaboration
  • Partner with Operations to capture and translate technical content into effective learning programs.
  • Liaise with external training vendors or certification bodies when necessary.
  • Support customer audits or project‑specific training requirements.
Evaluation & Reporting
  • Monitor training effectiveness through testing, performance metrics (such as competence development, productivity gains and cost of poor quality (COPQ)) and post‑training evaluations.
  • Provide regular reports on training completion, certification rates, and workforce readiness to stakeholders.
  • Recommend and implement improvements in training content, delivery, and infrastructure.
  • Continuously review and update content to reflect latest technologies, standards, and procedures.
