CFO, Financial Manager
Northern State University, a student-centered university committed to academic excellence and fiscal responsibility, invites applications for the position of Vice President for Finance and Administration (VPFA). The VPFA serves as the institution’s chief financial and administrative officer and is a key member of the President’s Cabinet, reporting directly to the President. This executive provides strategic leadership, oversight, and stewardship of the university’s financial resources and administrative operations in support of the institution’s mission, strategic plan, and long‑term sustainability.
Key Responsibilities- Financial planning, budgeting, forecasting, and reporting
- Accounting, payroll, procurement, contracts, and internal controls
- Human resources and payroll
- Facilities management, capital planning, and campus operations
- Risk management, insurance, and compliance
- Dining services and the campus bookstore
- Debt management and cash flow oversight
- Board reporting and collaboration with internal auditors, regulators, and financial partners
- A bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, management, business administration, public administration, or a related field from an accredited college or university is required. A master’s degree OR CPA is preferred.
- A minimum of five years of successful and progressive senior administrative leadership in finance and administration.
- Experience in higher education is preferred.
- Strong knowledge of financial management principles and practices.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to convey complex financial information clearly and effectively.
- Demonstrated ability to analyze financial data, identify issues, and develop solutions.
- Demonstrated ability to be a part of a senior leadership team committed to advancing the institutional mission and strategic plan.
- Strong leadership, collaboration, and team management skills.
- High level of integrity, professionalism, and attention to detail.
