Location: Aberdeen City

Some of the duties and responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

  • Responsible for ensuring that the maintenance of mechanical and electrical equipment aboard drilling rigs managed by the Company is conducted in accordance with the policies of the Company and in compliance with all Class, Statutory and Shelf State requirements.
  • Supporting technical matters for the vessels, including preventive maintenance, servicing, repairing and spares/supplies. Monitor the status and effectiveness of planned maintenance schedules to ensure maximum equipment efficiency.
  • Liaise with the Engineering Manager, Discipline Superintendents and Rig Managers to provide all departments a cost effective operation.
  • Communicate and direct with all Engineering staff to ensure that all equipment under their control is maintained and operated in a safe manner consistent with current legislation and company safe working practices.
  • Ensure that system failures are properly investigated, root causes identified & follow up/remedial actions taken.
  • Liaise with certifying authorities regarding equipment failures repairs and renewals.
  • Assist in the investigation of Incidents and to establish the root cause and make recommendations to prevent a recurrence. Assist as required in any emergency response. Assume role of on-call Superintendent when required.
  • Develop and review Verification Schemes for drilling rigs managed by the Company. Liaise with the ICP to carry out periodic reviews of the Schemes and follow up on comments as necessary.
  • Assist with the preparation of budgets, costs for all surveys, modifications and projects.
  • Assist with preparing annual plans and corresponding budgets.
  • Project managing, including planning for and attending rigs during docking and major repair periods in order to ensure that all necessary work and repairs are satisfactorily completed within agreed budgets.
  • Ensuring all relevant project activities are performed in accordance with Company Procedures.
  • Ensure adequate plans and schedules are available to meet ships operations, maintenance and repair in accordance with Company standards.
  • Risk assessment for projects and modifications to rigs to be ensured, including participating with technical crews, teams to achieve this.
  • Assist with the production of written procedures and safety instructions regarding mechanical and electrical equipment in accordance with Company Procedures.
  • Ensuring that engineering documents are reviewed by the required disciplines or departments in accordance with the procedure described in Company Procedures.
  • Ensuring all engineering documents (and any referenced documents) comply with rig contract requirements.
  • Prepare formal reports as to the condition, performance and costs associated with managed vessels. Carry out audits in order to achieve this.
  • Respond to all documentation, reports and other inward data regarding the mechanical and electrical equipment.
  • Undertake regular rig visits to ensure that vessels meet the Company's criteria for safe effective operations.
  • Co-ordinate the activities of support departments to ensure that rig support is achieved in the most efficient and cost effective manner.
  • Ensure that Maintenance Criticality Analysis and Reliability Centred Maintenance reviews are carried out for vessels as specified by Engineering Manager.
  • Assist in the selection and recruitment of offshore Engineering personnel to meet the requirements of the company.
  • Ensure office staff and personnel offshore are kept up to date on experience feedback and aware of safety and technical issues through Fleet Engineering Bulletins and Product /Safety Bulletins.
  • Investigate new and innovative technology to ensure company vessels continue “Best in Class” operability.
  • Develop and monitor maintenance strategies in line with Mechanical systems best practice & identify areas where improvements can be made.
  • Carry out fleet-wide risk assessment relating to Mechanical equipment & carry out audits on vessels and equipment suppliers as required by the company.
  • Review ORA’s ensuring they have appropriate and sufficient mitigations.
  • Review Presight data on a daily basis and promptly address overdue or failed target items.
  • Any other duties as required by the Engineering Manager.
Suitable applicants should ideally have:
  • Engineering Degree (MSc., BSc. or equivalent).
  • Suitable operational working experience.
  • Familiarisation of Company assets/policies/capabilities with respect to Design, Techniques, Vessels Equipment and manufacturing techniques.
  • Good communication skills and capable of running multi discipline projects.
  • Certificate of Competence as Marine Engineer, e.g. Chief Engineer ticket.
  • Practical exposure to offshore drilling operations.
