Woollard & Henry Ltd, an award-winning employee-owned business, has been providing engineering services and manufacturing bespoke products for a worldwide client base since 1873. We are introducing a new Technical Estimator position within our Head Office in Dyce, Aberdeen. This role is offered on an initial 3–6 month fixed-term basis while we assess how it integrates into our operations. For the right candidate, there is strong potential for the role to become permanent.
The Role - Technical EstimatorThe successful candidate will support our fabrication, welding and machining activities by preparing accurate cost estimates, liaising with clients and suppliers, and assisting in the preparation of quotations. This is an excellent opportunity to help shape a new role within a growing engineering environment.
- Interpret engineering drawings in metric and imperial units
- Prepare accurate estimates for fabrication, welding and machining work
- Carry out material take-offs and calculate material requirements
- Estimate labour and machining hours
- Contact suppliers for pricing on materials and subcontract services
- Liaise with clients to clarify scope and technical requirements
- Prepare professional quotations and assist with follow-up discussions
- Work with engineering and production teams to ensure smooth job handover
- Experience in an estimating or technical role within engineering, fabrication or machining
- Strong ability to interpret engineering drawings (metric and imperial)
- Knowledge of welding processes, machining methods, tolerances and materials
- Ability to calculate material weights, allowances and cutting lists
- Strong communication skills with clients, suppliers and internal teams
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and ERP experience beneficial
- Strong attention to detail and organisational skills
- Time-served background in fabrication, welding or machining
- Engineering qualification (Apprenticeship, HNC/HND or equivalent)
- Experience in subsea, oil & gas or precision engineering
- Knowledge of ISO 9001 quality management systems
- Initial 3–6 month fixed-term contract with the potential to become permanent
