Background Summary

Our customer is a multi‑national engineering organization, one of the world’s most advanced independent providers of repair, overhaul, and maintenance within the turbine industry. They serve worldwide industrial customers for the overhaul of compressors, steam and gas turbines. The project in which you’ll be working is a high‑stakes engineering effort to design, install, and commission a gas turbine‑driven water pumping system aimed at mitigating flooding risks in critical sections of the London Underground.

The system is powered by an industrial gas turbine, selected for its reliability and rapid start‑up capabilities. Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and Site Acceptance Testing (SAT) are planned, with full support required for coordination, reporting, and compliance verification. Commissioning is expected to be complex due to multiple subsystem interactions and stakeholder involvement.

Role Overview

This role is a unique opportunity for an experienced professional to engage in the design, evaluation, installation and delivery of an aeroderivative engine‑based power plant for a critical application. It requires deep domain experience in the specification of aeroderivative power plant systems and auxiliaries as well as their integration and testing. Important requirements include the ability to evaluate component matching in an aeroderivative power plant (i.e., gas generator, power turbine, gearbox, couplings and alternator) and to specify component and integrated test schedules to enable evaluation of performance prior to customer delivery.

Excellent documentation and communication skills are essential.

Qualifications and Experience

Education

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.

Professional Experience

  • 20+ years of experience in gas turbine design with hands‑on exposure to full engine and component‑level development.
  • Demonstrated experience working within integrated product teams.
  • Understanding of manufacturability and material application.
  • Cost modelling experience is highly desirable.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.

Professional Attributes

  • Demonstrates sound engineering judgment in solving moderately complex technical and operational challenges.
  • Stays current with advancements in gas turbine repair and engineering best practices.
  • Contributes as a subject matter expert and mentor within their discipline.
  • Effective communicator with the ability to influence and build consensus across teams.

Preferred Attributes

  • Experience with London Underground or Transport for London (TfL) projects.
  • Knowledge of gas turbine control systems, overspeed protection, and vibration monitoring.
  • Familiarity with acoustic enclosures, fire & gas detection systems, and integration with legacy infrastructure.

Required Technical Competency

  • Experience in a similar role (design and integration of power plants).
  • Excellent technical, analytical and project management skills.
  • Gas turbine engineering experience specifically aeroderivative and power turbines.
  • Experience in specifying gearbox and alternator to match the gas turbine.
  • Exceptional analytical and problem‑solving abilities.
  • Excellent communication skills for effective teamwork and documentation, with the ability to translate complex technical concepts into simple understandable language.
  • Leadership:
Ability to develop and lead conversations in both formal and informal customer settings.

Experience in design and integration of powerplants for offshore applications would be a definite positive for this role.
