About the Role

A high‑achieving secondary school in Redbridge is seeking an ambitious and inspiring Head of Humanities to lead a successful and collaborative faculty from September 2026. This is a full‑time, permanent leadership opportunity ideal for a driven Humanities specialist-whether your expertise lies in History, Geography, RE, or Social Sciences-with the vision and capability to raise standards and shape an engaging curriculum across KS3-KS5.

You will play a key role in strategic planning, driving teaching & learning, supporting staff, and ensuring that Humanities subjects continue to thrive.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and develop the Humanities faculty across KS3-KS5
  • Oversee curriculum design, assessment, and delivery across all Humanities subjects
  • Drive improvements in progress, attainment, and student engagement
  • Support, mentor, and line‑manage departmental staff
  • Lead quality assurance, including learning walks, observations, and data analysis
  • Coordinate enrichment, trips, cross‑curricular projects, and wider-school initiatives
  • Contribute to whole‑school development and strategic planning
The Ideal Candidate
  • Strong subject expertise in one or more Humanities disciplines
  • Confident teaching at KS3-KS5 (KS5 preferred)
  • Experience contributing to or leading curriculum development
  • A track record of raising outcomes and driving high standards
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and organisational skills
  • A commitment to inclusion, academic excellence, and collaborative working
