Overview

Are you an enthusiastic, talented Psychiatrist looking to rejuvenate or begin your career? We have an exciting opportunity for a Psychiatrist to join the Consultant team in Grampian. The post combines a novel approach to final year Undergraduate Medical Teaching with a clinical role. The post holder will work part of the week in the Teaching Centre to deliver psychiatric teaching and support to final year Medical Students who will assess patients referred by their General Practitioner, alongside a team of General Practitioner educators who supervise Medical Students in assessing and managing on‑the‑day patients.

The post holder will oversee the work of the Students, provide clinical supervision, and deliver more formal teaching at other times of the week. They will develop and shape the psychiatric element of the teaching centre in collaboration with the Undergraduate Psychiatric Teaching Team.

The post is combined with a clinical role as a Consultant Psychiatrist within NHS Grampian in the subspecialty of the applicant’s choice. With further digitalisation of our services, there may be some opportunity to work in a hybrid model with some sessions workable from home, but the job will be primarily on site at Royal Cornhill Hospital.

Responsibilities
  • Join the Consultant team in Grampian and contribute to both teaching and clinical care.
  • Develop a novel approach to final year Undergraduate Medical Teaching combined with a clinical role.
  • Deliver psychiatric teaching to final year Medical Students and support their assessment of patients referred by General Practitioners.
  • Supervise Students and provide clinical supervision, with formal teaching at other times.
  • Develop and shape the psychiatric element of the teaching centre with the Undergraduate Psychiatric Teaching Team.
  • Work as a Consultant Psychiatrist within NHS Grampian in the chosen subspecialty.
  • Possible hybrid working arrangements with on-site duties at Royal Cornhill Hospital.
Qualifications
  • Full GMC registration with a licence to practise (licence must be in place prior to starting).
  • UK-trained candidates should have evidence of higher specialist training leading to CCT or be within 6 months of confirmed entry on the GMC Specialist Register from the date of interview.
  • CESR (Certificate of Eligibility for Specialist Registration) or Portfolio Pathway route doctors may apply for a substantive Consultant post only after CESR or Portfolio Pathway registration is awarded. Internationally recognised qualifications approved by the GMC should have confirmed entry on the GMC Specialist Register.
  • Applications from doctors with appropriate specialist training and experience who are not listed on the GMC Specialist Register can be considered for a Locum Consultant post (up to 12 months) if no substantive appointment is made. While in locum employment, an application to obtain CESR or Portfolio Pathway registration can be made to the GMC.
