Shifts: Monday through Friday, 8:30am – 4:30pm
Are you interested in applying your knowledge and gaining valuable experience? The City of Abbotsford has 1 co‑op employment opportunity with the Energy & Climate Action team. The Energy Co‑op Student will be involved in a number of corporate energy and climate action initiatives, to work towards reaching the City’s sustainability and greenhouse gas reduction goals. The role focuses on technical energy assessment and reporting, including hands‑on experience conducting lighting audits in municipal facilities, analyzing energy consumption data, and helping shape energy reporting and sustainability programs.

What You’ll Do:
- Lighting System Audits:
Conduct audits of municipal facilities to assess existing lighting systems, including documenting lamp types, fixture counts, wattages, hours of operation, and controls. - Data Entry & Analysis:
Enter lighting audit findings into BC Hydro Lighting Calculator, Assist with ENERGY STAR Portfolio Manager and PUMA with energy consumption and cost data reporting, generate reports and visualize energy trends. - Site Visit Coordination:
Schedule and organize site visits with facility operations teams; assist with on‑site measurements such as light levels and collect operational usage information. - Facility Interviews:
Support interviews with maintenance or operations staff to gather contextual information about energy use, operational schedules, and system performance. - Documentation:
Maintain accurate records of findings, update equipment lists and system specifications, and draft summary reports for each facility assessed. - Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Skills, Knowledge and
Experience:
- Completion of 3rd year at a post‑secondary institution.
- Relevant work experience and/or educational background in engineering, sustainability, climate action, environmental science, or a related technical field.
- Basic understanding of lighting systems (LED, fluorescent, HID), energy efficiency principles, and building energy consumption.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel for data entry, basic analysis, and charting; strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to collect on‑site measurements, organize technical information, and maintain accurate documentation.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to interact professionally with facility and operations staff.
- Ability to manage time effectively, coordinate site visits, and work independently as well as part of a team.
