Overview
The Manufacturing Technician role is vital in fostering and executing Continuous Improvement (CI) initiatives across manufacturing operations, primarily focusing on optimizing production processes, improving manufacturability, designing mechanical solutions and providing technical support to cross-functional teams where required. Reporting to the CI Manager this role requires a hands-on manufacturing professional with strong mechanical design aptitude and practical problem-solving ability.
What You Will Do- Continuous Improvement & Process Optimization
- Partner with the CI Manager and cross-functional teams to identify, prioritize, and execute CI projects aligned with company strategic objectives.
- Conduct process mapping, value stream analysis, and workflow assessments to identify bottlenecks and recommend scalable manufacturing improvements.
- Perform work measurement studies including takt time, cycle time, and time studies to support productivity improvements.
- Support Lean initiatives such as Kaizen events, 6S implementation, and standardization efforts.
- Maintain updated CI logs and track project progress to ensure timely completion.
- Prepare reports and analyze data to identify areas for manufacturing improvements.
- Engineering & Manufacturability Support
- Apply engineering and Design for Manufacturability principles in collaboration with Product Design and Production teams to improve product and process efficiency.
- Design and develop mechanical solutions such as jigs, fixtures, and production aids to improve safety, repeatability, and operational efficiency.
- Initiate innovative solutions to automate and error-proof manufacturing processes.
- Modify products and process-related consumables to enhance manufacturability and reduce operational inefficiencies.
- Assist with production testing of new products, configurations, tools, and equipment through practical, hands-on methods.
- CAD & Technical Documentation
- Create and update technical drawings and schematics using CAD software.
- Develop draft sketches and detailed 2D and 3D models using Solid Works, AutoCAD, or similar platforms.
- Develop and maintain manufacturing procedures, SOPs, and technical documentation.
- Plan and maintain detailed plant and equipment layout drawings.
- Plant Layout & Capital Projects
- Analyze production processes and equipment positioning to optimize layout, space utilization, and workflow efficiency.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to align layout planning with operational requirements.
- Ensure compliance with health, safety, environmental, and regulatory standards during layout planning.
- Support capital expenditure projects by defining equipment requirements, space allocation, utilities, and infrastructure needs.
- Collaboration & Training
- Gather input from production managers, staff, and stakeholders and integrate feedback into practical solutions.
- Support communication of technical concepts to non-technical team members.
- Provide guidance and training to team members as required.
- Assist the CI Manager with coordinating activities related to CI projects.
- Other duties and projects as assigned by your manager.
- Diploma or Degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related field.
- Minimum 2 years of experience in Continuous Improvement within a manufacturing environment.
- Demonstrated experience improving manufacturing processes using Lean, Kaizen, or similar methodologies.
- Proficiency in 2D and 3D CAD software such as Solid Works and AutoCAD.
- Strong understanding of engineering principles and ability to interpret technical drawings and specifications.
- Experience with mechanical assembly, machinery, and basic construction fundamentals.
- Knowledge of ergonomics, regulatory, and industrial safety requirements for plant layout planning.
- Experience with process mapping and work measurement techniques.
- Strong analytical and root-cause problem-solving skills.
- Project management experience leading CI initiatives from concept to implementation.
- Basic understanding of rapid prototyping and 3D printing.
- Strong documentation and organizational skills.
- Ability to work cross-functional in a matrix environment with effective communication and collaboration skills.
- Proficiency in Google Suite and MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
- Detail-oriented with a strong commitment to quality and manufacturability.
- Eagerness to learn, grow, and adapt in an evolving manufacturing environment.
