The City of Abbotsford is looking for Auxiliary Recreation Workers – Community Recreation Leaders to join our Parks, Recreation & Culture team. Under the supervision of the Community Recreation Programmers, Community Recreation Leaders are responsible for planning and facilitating a variety of social, cultural, sport and general interest activities for early years, child, youth and adult programs.

- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a culturally diverse community setting
- Excellent customer service, communication skills & positive attitude
- Plan and lead pre-registered programs (sports, arts & crafts, dance, cooking, early years, parent participation, children, youth & adult)
- Supervise, facilitate and lead drop‑in sessions
- Supervise Birthday parties
- Childminding
- Lead games, sports, and craft making activities with children
- Lead activities at special events
- Set‑up and take down of programs
- Report safety hazards and respond to first aid incidents appropriately
- Current Standard First Aid with CPR ‘C’ & AED certification
- Completion of grade 10.
- High Five Principles of Healthy Child Development Certificate
- Leadership skills including ability to model appropriate behaviors and demonstrate sound judgment while creating a positive, enthusiastic & fun environment.
- One-year related experience inclusive of six months instructional experience in a sport, recreational and/or cultural environment planning and leading programs, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
- Area of assignment may require additional experience:
Skate Instructor requires skating experience demonstrated through a skating assessment Camp 1‑to‑1 Support requires Special Education Assistant (SEA) Certificate.
Candidates are required to provide a satisfactory Police Information Check and Vulnerable Sector Check in order to work in this position. A clearance requires the absence of any criminal charges or convictions related to this position. It is the responsibility of the candidate to report to their manager any criminal charges laid against them during their term in this position.

Salary: $21.34 – $25.11 per hour, plus the appropriate percentage in lieu of benefits
